Young Toddlers

Many children in this age groups are often experiencing for the first time a structured peer group environment away from home, so the primary focus of their activities is on establishing a daily routine, learning how to cooperate with others, and following simple directions.
Fun and entertainment are provided through exploration of books, music, story telling, and a variety of hands-on creative activities designed to develop your child's fine motor skills, such as painting, scribbling, rolling, pounding, and squeezing play dough, simple puzzles, and manipulative play with building blocks, pegs, large beads, and stacking rings.
Milestones
Development milestones that the 2-year-olds at St. George's School frequently achieve:
- Early development of verbal communication skills including simple verbs, phrases, and sentences,
- Number recognition and concept to 3; count to 10 by rote,
- Relation of numbers to self (2 eyes, 2 ears, 1 mouth, 1 nose, 5 fingers, etc.),
- Mastery of 3-7 piece puzzles,
- Recognition of simple shapes, and primary and secondary colors,
- Development of participation in daily routine,
- Established concept of self, including body parts and uses, five senses, and ability to control own actions,
- Awareness of basic science concepts, including hard/soft, hot/cold, wet/dry, sink/float; seasons and weather; nature and the world around us,
- Sequencing of objects and story characters, and
- Development of gross motor and fine motor skills.
Supply List
All students at St. George's School should bring a mat, blanket, and pillow for rest time, which are taken home and laundered every Friday.
Students should also leave a complete change of clothes at the school. ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS SHOULD BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.
Students who are still in diapers should send a package of diapers and a box of wipes, as well as any other ointments or diaper cream. A complete diaper bag may also be left at the school each day, if desired.
